Description: The Nonindigenous Aquatic Species (NAS) database is organized by the United States Geological Survey and contains point data for reports of introduced aquatic species in the United States, and includes recorded observations from the 1840s to present day. The Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System (GLANSIS) is organized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and is the Great Lakes node of the NAS. GLAHNSIS supplies information for the Great Lakes region to the NAS. Data are collected from various sources including: research reports, government reports, datasets, among others. This layer therefore is not a comprehensive representation of all aquatic invasives in the country; rather it represents observed occurances through time that have been incorporated into the database. Observances are broken into categories by inveterbrates and vertebrates, and subdivided into groups such as reptiles, viruses, plants, bryozoans, and mollusks. This dataset contains all reported observances in the NAS/GLANSIS databases as of July 2014, which was limited to coincide with the extent of the Great Lakes Basin as defined by the GLAHF Hydrology Data v1.0 watershed layer. See "Fields" section of this metadata record for information on individual fields. This dataset was altered to limit its extent to the St. Clair Detroit River System (SCDRS) Initiative Project Area (https://scdrs.org/), which includes the waters of SCDRS as defined by the SCDRS Initiative Project and their contributing watersheds. The SCDRS Initiative defines the waters of SCDRS the area approximately from the southern base of Lake Huron to the western basin of Lake Erie.

Description: This GIS file was created to support coastal and offshore planning and research in the Great Lakes, as part of the larger Great Lakes GIS project, at the Institute for Fisheries Research, a cooperative unit of the University of Michigan and Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In particular, this file was created for use in the Lakebed Alteration Decision Support Tool project, which aims to produce a GIS tool for supporting site-choice decisions for lakebed-altering projects in the Great Lakes, by incorporating spatial data about sensitive features and human uses of Great Lakes waters. This data set describes fish spawning and nursery sites in the Great Lakes. It is derived primarily from the Goodyear Spawning Atlas (Goodyear et al., 1982). However, in order to present a more up-to-date view of fish spawning activity, additional information was incorporated in 2011 from several more recent studies, so that some locations have been added, and others have been removed, as compared with the original Goodyear Spawning Atlas. This process was completed for twelve species of interest only: alewife, bloater, burbot, emerald shiner, lake herring, lake trout, lake whitefish, rainbow smelt, slimy sculpin, smallmouth bass, walleye, and yellow perch. Goodyear Atlas points for other species were not included in this GIS file. Please note that these GIS points are accurate, at best, to one arcminute, and many locations are approximate; consult the Goodyear Spawning Atlas for more information on any given point. Description: This layer shows species of greatest conservation need (SGCN) fish and mussel occurences from the 2015 Wildlife Action Plan (WAP) species list, summarized by SCDRS basins. These occurances are from streams and inalnd lakes and exclude occurences from the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and Detroit River. Fish data are historical occurences from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fish Collection System (FCS) and Michigan Fish Atlas. Mussel data are from the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI), the University of Michigan, Central Michigan University, and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quailty (now the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy)
