Layer: Classification zones (ID: 0)

Name: Classification zones

Display Field: Value

Type: Raster Layer

Geometry Type: null

Description: The GLAHF classification zones consists of 5 defined zones coastal terrestrial, islands, coastal margin, nearshore, and offshore. The coastal terrestrial, islands, coastal margin, and nearshore zones consist of 30-m grid cells. The offshore zone consists of 1.8-km grid cells which can be found in the "glahf_offshore_zones_1800m_grid" layer. In ordered to align the 30-m grids with the 1.8-km grids the 30m-m grids were extended into the offshore where needed. The nested 30-m and 1.8-km resolution framework grid was agreed on by many Great Lakes researchers and managers at a workshop hosted by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust in January 2011. The framework aligns with the USGS National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD). The shoreline and islands were compiled from a variety of data sources from both the U.S. and Canada with the best available data (see shoreline and islands layers). The shoreline attempts to represent the ordinary high water mark (OHWM) as closely as possible at the given resolution.
